Our Story
Moor Amps is a British audio company born from a lifelong passion for music and engineering.
Every Moor Amps product is conceived, built, and refined in the UK. We work closely with trusted local suppliers for our manufacturing, and all final assembly, testing, and quality control are carried out in-house. This hands-on approach allows us to maintain absolute control over every detail, ensuring that each amplifier meets our uncompromising musical and engineering standards before it leaves our workshop.
The name Moor Amps is drawn from our family name, Narramore, which traces its roots to Dartmoor in the South West of England. The origins of the name are thought to mean either “North of the Moor” or “Narrowing of the Moor.” Dartmoor itself played a formative role in my early life; countless hours spent exploring its vast, rugged landscape left a lasting impression and continue to inspire our designs.
This also links to our engineering philosophy. At Moor Amps, we like to say our approach can be summed up in two words: More Amps.
“More Amps” is about current capability, control, and headroom. It is what allows our amplifiers to maintain a cast-iron grip on the music, regardless of how demanding the loudspeaker load may be. The result is effortless dynamics, unforced musical power, and a sense of scale that remains composed and transparent, even at the most demanding moments—free from compression, strain, or artifice.
In short, Moor Amps exists to serve the music, faithfully and without compromise.
Why Angel?
The name Angel emerged during a pivotal moment in the development of the amplifier. Late one evening, after a long day at the soldering bench, the first pre-production Angel 6 boards were powered up for critical listening.
One of my long-standing reference artists is Wille and the Bandits, whose recordings I know intimately. A few tracks from their album Grow were cued up through the new amplifier. From the opening moments, it was immediately apparent that something significant had changed. When the track Angel began, the amplifier delivered a performance of extraordinary power, intimacy, and emotional weight.
In that moment, it was clear that a genuine breakthrough had been achieved. The music was rendered with a sense of presence and control that felt fundamentally different—effortless, expressive, and deeply engaging.
I have returned to that track countless times since, listening through successive iterations of the design. Each time, it remains a profoundly moving musical experience. The name Angel endured because it captured that moment of realisation: when the amplifier first revealed its true voice, and it was unmistakably something special.
