Angel 6 MKII Power Amplifier

The Angel-6 Mk II upgrades the 3-island power supply of the flagship Angel-6 amplifier.

We extend our low-feedback philosophy to the power supplies. The low-feedback amplifier is fed with incredibly pure, high-current DC rails from low-feedback regulators.

The upgrade has almost tripled the capacitance compared to the original Angel-6 power supply. It’s gone from 200,000uF to 550,000uF. You could say this is the high-Cap version of the Angel-6! Not only has the capacitance increased drastically, but we’ve also improved the quality of the supply to each amplifier module by lowering the supply impedance.

We’ve redesigned the casework of the Angel-6 so the mkII version is much slimmer, allowing it to fit more standard rack systems. The heavy-machined casing uses different panel thicknesses to damp each other out and avoid vibration reaching the amplifier components. Retaining a single-box design allows us to keep the impedance of the power supply as low as possible, and we’ve further optimised the supply routing and reduced track lengths to gain even more benefit from the capacitor upgrades. This all results in more natural dynamics, and the amplifier has tighter control of the loudspeaker.

The improvements that these upgrades make to the sound of the Angel-6 Mk II are wide-ranging: there’s a big increase in space, the width and depth of the soundstage on well-recorded material is just huge; there’s more layering and subtlety, more micro-detail, more musical expression, more natural sounding intruments; the dynamics are more natural, especially noticeable on percussion and piano; basslines just flow and trip along, with more texture, character and foot tapping. In short, it’s even more musical.
